Três -Three

2012 - 2015

Exhibited at SESC Pompéia, SESC Paladim, and at Mis de Campinas, the installation Três (Three), reveals dance in an ingenious set of machines. The artist elaborates a new apparatus to go back in time to the first cinematographic experiments. He brings serpentine dance to the contemporary gaze. The construction of the moving image takes us back to the praxinoscope, a machine developed at the end of the 19th century that resulted in the invention of the cinema.

The precision of the machines is achieved with the meticulous craftsmanship of carpentry allied to a complex technology. The objects, made by programmed algorithms, move and generate sound noises in real time. With a little more attention it is possible to observe the detail: a little ballerina escapes to the touch, floats in the image with a subtle movement, loose in the light, but trapped in the machines.
